As an operator and product manager, I can struggle to consider the big picture while also being heavily involved in the details.
There were times that I was so absorbed in building our platform at Tixers that I would forget the importance of partnerships, marketing, and how we were generally positioning ourselves against the competition.
The common expression is, “He can’t see the forest for the trees.”
It’s important to pull back and look at the whole forest regularly, despite how deep in the trees you sometimes need to be.
The obvious explanation here is that by looking at the forest, you can maintain a holistic view and make sure you’re focusing on the right details.
But there is a much more important reason to pull yourself out of the trees: you may realize you don’t even care about this forest.
